Getting To Know You...

(This will also be up on Thursday so that anyone who wants to comment can get a chance)

I just took a glance at the number of Google followers for our blog and my eyes popped out! Are there really 40 of you out there that follow the adventures of The Canine Mafia via Google Friends?! Don't get us wrong, we're very excited! It's just that we never though the outings of four canines would gather such fan base!

This week we were also fortunate to receive three fan emails. The usual amount we receive is zero. We popped open the best bottle of wine to celebrate. Yes, I know, it doesn't take much to excite us over here at The Dogfathers but what can we say? We're simple like that.

So readers...we want to get to know you. Who are you? Who are your furry mates? In exchange, I'll share some background on a member of The Canine Mafia.

I'll start with Bruno.

Once upon a time, this young couple bought their first home. The couple wanted to add a dog to their family and began a search for one. Their search led them to this puppy:

This puppy grew very quickly!

Egads, he would just not stop growing!!

He would eat everything in site! This we are sure contributed to his gigantic growth spurts!

Thank goodness he finally stopped growing!

One day, we learned our huge puppy busted his hips. We're not sure how he did it, but he hid it very well for a long time.

The huge puppy pursued lots of swimming as a physical therapy effort.
He hasn't stoppped since.

And so here we are, five years later.
Me and this huge puppy...broken hips and all.

And there you have it...the Cliff Notes of Bruno. Now we want to get to know you! Please introduce yourselves and give us a glimpse into your world. We'd love to start getting to know some of our daily readers. It makes Bruno feel special. :-)

  1. Are you sure he's stopped growing? Maybe he's just taking a break ...

One of Dennis's friends is doing water therapy, not for damaged hips, but to improve endurance.

  3. Hello Mary and family! Bruno has just the sweetest puppy pictures. Can't wait to see the rest of the gang's!

I've been following for a while now, lurking in Google reader I guess. :) Anyway, I'm Cate and my animal family is much smaller than yours, just a yellow dog named Sebastian and a loud kitty named Josie. Our adventures aren't much next to yours, but we have a good time.

  4. I love reading about the Mafia adventures but I use Google Reader so you have many more followers that you don't even know about! Not sure how I found your blog, I think I was linked from one of the many blogs that I read.

I have a 2yr old corgi and a 11mo old toller and we do training in obedience and agility.

  5. Bruno, I did not know you had broken hips!

We subscribe to your blog through Google Reader. My Mommeh got me from a Devon Rex breeder, and Harley was adopted from the shelter when he was 6 months old.

  7. I'm Jessica and I have a fawn pug named Lil. Also known as the Great Rock Eater! She has a knack for eating things best left uneaten. In 2 years, we've only had to make one trip to the emergency vet =) My roomate also has 3 cats and a shepherd mix named Madie.

WE found your blog through a friend. I was having a bad day and she suggested I check you out adn sent me the link to your Family Portraits post. She told me you would brighten my day and that was an understatment =) Since then you have become my go to blog when I need a pick me up. I have gone back to the beginning of your blog to get to know everyone better!!!

Love the Mafia, keep up the good work!!

    Jess & Lilo

PS: Tell Bruno that we don't think he has a freakishly big head. We think he's perfect just the way he is =)

  9. Hi Mary,

I follow your blog as a link to my internet homepage so I'm an addition to your followers, but I follow you regularly! I think yours was one of the first blogs I started to read and I got here from Walter's blog. I have a two-year old pug named Beulah who defends my backyard against the evil squirels and goes hiking with me (who says pugs can't exercise, eh?), and a five-year old cat named Marble who tolerates my "forced-cuddling". AND, in four days I'm getting a four-year old lab rescue so I'll really need your blog for perspective when things get crazy! Believe me, you and your mafia are an inspiration!

  10. Hi Mary!
I'm Vikki, also known as the Pug Posse's Mama! I think I found your blog through Walter's blog. I had to check it out since the Posse has actually been referred to as the Pug Mafia and if you go back a little way in our blog, you'll see that Pippin is also known as the Pugfather ;-)

The Posse consists of 7 pugs, 5 of which are rescues. We volunteer for Kentuckiana Pug Rescue and I blog about our adventures (well, the pugs' adventures mostly).

I love your pictures and your blog is a definite pick-me-up :-)

    Thanks for sharing your mafia!

  12. Hi Mary,
Marley and I are totally in love with Bruno. I don't recall how we found you but we love reading.

I got Marley one year after I realized I wanted a dog. It took me a long time but I'm very happy I waited until I found my dog.

  14. Hi Mary,

I'm Cindy and I have two wonderful little fawn pugs - Yoda & Brutus. I actually work with Jessica(mom of Lilo the great rockeater)- see her post above. She told me to check out your blog when I needed a pick me up. I love your blog and the canine mafia - some of your pictures are just amazing.

Yoda is 6 and Brutus is 5. I have had them both since they were puppies. Luckily they have been healthy - except for their allergies.

The puppy pictures of Bruno are adorable!

  15. Hi Mary!
I'm Kathy and 'know' you as a fellow Donkey. I have James who is a red brindle 9 year old retired racing greyhound. The only racing he does now is around the back yard or toward his food dish! Then we have Ariel, a Blenheim Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. That sounds snobby, but she is not. She loves all people and thinks she is the boss of all other dogs, except big brother James.
We love reading the adventures of the Mafiosos, so give them all big hugs and kisses from Wisconsin!

My name is Abigail and I'm reading from all the way over in Scotland!

I have quite a menagerie. A 2 year old Basenji mix named Sparky, a 4 month old BC pup named Kota, 2 rabbits called Smirnoff and Bruiser and two russian dwarf hamsters.

I'm pretty sure I came over to your blog from TWAAW, it may have been via others as I read quite a few dog blogs.

Your updates always make me smile! Keep them coming!

  17. Hi Mary,

I've been reading your blog for quite some time now, not sure how long exactly. Pretty sure I found you through Three Woofs & A Woo. I check your site on a daily basis, even though I have since learned you only update on Tuesdays LOL My favorite is Bruno! Oh my name is Amanda and we live in south Texas. As for our family, I have a human kid that is almost 7 and he loves your pugs. We have a 3 year old Harlequin Great Dane named Phantom, and a Tibetan Spaniel mix rescue named Lola, and two tabby cats (Sable and Sox). We love your photos, we loved the webcam when it was up, and we think Bruno is the best ever! Thanks for bringing sunshine into our web visits :)

  18. Hi there...
I also found you via Three Woofs & A Woo.
Your pictures and running commentary are great. I really enjoy seeing what your pups have been up to. Such characters!
I have four little monsters.... Lizzy (The Laughing Dingo), Jak (a sexy little border collie), Steve Earle (a little Mexican who is seriously in love with Carmela), and Romi (the feline boss of the pack).
Your blog is a lot of fun... thanks for sharing with us.
    Cheers!

  21. Hello!
I'm Beth. Sometimes I have a lot of free time at work and go from dog blog to dog blog to horse blog back to dog blog! I must have come across you from Just Another Dog Blog or TWAAW. I don't subscribe, but I usually end up checking in once or twice a week! I just love the pictures and stories that unfold.
I have Haiku, a 2 year old tricolor Cavalier King Charles. Crack is the Calico Cat that presides over our home. Add in 2 horses, Truby and Delta, 2 guinea pigs (Gusty and Popper) and a sad little Siamese cat and I have animals spread all over the county!

Hello! I just adore Bruno- what a big lug! :) I came across your blog a while back through Buzz's blog and have enjoyed it ever since!

I live with Sampson, who is a six year old boxer mix, and two evil kitties. We live in on the outskirts of Orangevale near Folsom. I'm always inspired by your hiking pictures so now once a week my parents, Sampson, and I head off for a new hiking adventure. (he says thank you!)

  23. First, I have to say thank you for helping me through some tough times when I had 2 surgeries and was off work for 9 months. Three weeks after I got back to work I was off again for developing rhuematoid arthritis. Altogether I missed 10 months of work. I came to your site through Three Woofs and a Woo like several others here. You helped get me through the boredom and depression.

My dog is named "Puppylove". She was left in my yard on a day when the high temperature was 5F. She was so tiny she still had milk breath. She is 14 now. Her vet says that she is a chow/collie mix. All I know is she is the most beatiful dog in the world to me.

I was not going to keep her because I had 2 elderly cats in the house at the time and did not think they needed to be around a rambunctious puppy, but 1 of them became so attached to her I was afraid to give her away. She does not care for other dogs, but loves cats.

You are an exceptional photographer and writer and your stories make our days more entertaining. I hope someday to grow up to be just like you. I am only 49. There is still hope.

  24. Hello! We love your blog, when we found it we went back and read every entry from the begining! We wre so happy when you decided to keep Carmela!

I am a rescued pit bull, my brother Roscoe was found running on Roscoe Blvd, and Sprocket (RIP) I found dumped in Glendora canyon while on a MT bike ride. Oh and we recently rescued a couple kitties!

We live near Pasadena California and try an do as much to support some of the local rescues and shelters in the area. We have our favorites on our blog.

Keep on bloggin we love it!
